Garden Fencing in Surrey

Slotted panel and bespoke batten fencing. Concrete posts, gravel boards, built to last.

How a Fence Installation Works

A good fence does its job quietly — it keeps pets in, gives you privacy, and weathers the years without drama. Josh installs garden fencing across Surrey and Berkshire for homeowners who want it done properly and built to last. Work starts from £270 per bay (concrete post, panel, and gravel board), and Josh visits every site before quoting to make sure the price is based on what the job actually involves.

Whether you need a straight replacement of old or damaged panels, or a fresh installation on a bare boundary, the process starts with Josh visiting the site to assess the boundary, check the ground conditions, and confirm the most suitable fencing type. From there, he provides a clear quote and agrees a date.

On the day, concrete posts are set in position and given proper time to bed before panels are fitted. Gravel boards are included as standard on concrete post installations — these sit between the ground and the base of the panel, protecting the timber from moisture and extending the life of the fence significantly. The site is cleared at the end of the job. Old panels, posts, and debris are removed and taken away.

Josh installs two main types of fencing. Slotted panel fencing is the most common choice for standard garden boundaries — concrete posts with channelled slots that the panels slide into, which makes future panel replacement straightforward. Bespoke batten fencing is suited to customers who want a more individual look, or where a standard panel wouldn't suit the character of the garden.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fencing Questions

What areas do you cover?

Josh is based in Egham and works across Surrey, Berkshire, and south-west London. Regular areas include Staines, Windsor, Weybridge, Woking, Virginia Water, Cobham, Richmond, and many more. If you're unsure whether he covers your area, just give him a call — he's happy to confirm.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. Josh visits every job in person before quoting. That means the price you get is based on what the job actually involves — not a figure pulled from thin air over the phone. There are no surprises once work begins.

Do you supply materials, or do I?

For most jobs, Josh can supply materials and include them in the quote. If you have specific products in mind — a kitchen you've already chosen or tiles you've picked out — he's equally happy to work with those. It's worth discussing when you first get in touch.

Are you a one-man band?

Josh works with one assistant, but he's personally present on every single job. You'll always deal directly with Josh from the first visit through to the final day on site.

Do you have reviews I can read?

Yes — Josh has a 5-star Google rating. You can find reviews from customers across Surrey on his Google Business page. If you'd like pointing in the right direction, just get in touch and he'll send you the link.

How far in advance do you book?

It depends on the time of year and what's on the schedule. The best thing to do is get in touch with details of your job. Josh will let you know honestly where he's at and give you a realistic start date.

How much does fitted storage cost?

Work starts from £1,250+VAT per linear metre (unpainted). A typical project — such as a full bedroom of fitted wardrobes — comes in around £2,800, though the final figure depends on the size of the job, the materials used, and the complexity of the design. Josh visits in person before quoting, so you'll get a price based on your actual space, not an estimate.

What types of bespoke storage do you build?

Josh builds fitted wardrobes, alcove shelving, open shelving units, media walls, landing storage, and other custom built-in solutions. If you're not sure whether what you have in mind is feasible, the best approach is a quick conversation — he's happy to tell you either way.

How long does a bespoke storage installation take?

Most fitted wardrobe jobs take between one and three days depending on the size and complexity. A full bedroom of floor-to-ceiling wardrobes with internal fitting and drawers will take longer than a simple alcove unit. Josh will give you a clear timeline when he visits and quotes.

Do you paint the finished storage?

The standard price is for unpainted storage — smooth and ready for painting. If you'd like it painted, Josh can discuss what's involved and either include it in the quote or leave the units ready for you to finish yourself. Worth raising when you get in touch.

Do I need to prepare the room before you arrive?

Not usually. Josh and his assistant handle everything on the day. If the room needs to be cleared of furniture beforehand, Josh will let you know in advance and give you plenty of notice to sort it.

Can you work with a design I've already got?

Yes. If you've already got a design in mind, measurements, or an idea from a showroom, Josh is happy to work from that as a starting point. Bring it along when he visits and you can go through it together.

How much does garden fencing cost?

Fencing starts from £270 per bay (concrete post, panel, and gravel board). The total depends on the number of bays, whether existing posts need to be removed, and any groundwork involved. Josh visits in person before quoting so you'll get an accurate figure rather than a rough estimate.

What types of fencing do you install?

Josh mainly installs slotted panel fencing and bespoke batten fencing. Slotted fencing uses a concrete post system with interchangeable panels, which makes future repairs straightforward. Batten fencing has a more individual character and suits gardens where a standard panel wouldn't do the space justice.

How long does fence installation take?

Most standard residential fencing jobs take between one and two days. A larger garden boundary will take a little longer. Josh will confirm the likely timescale when he visits and quotes the job.

Do concrete posts really make a difference?

They do, yes. Concrete posts last significantly longer than timber posts and won't rot at ground level the way wooden posts do over time — especially in the clay soils common across Surrey. All of Josh's standard fencing installations use concrete posts and gravel boards, which is what gives the finished fence its longevity.

Do you remove the old fence before putting up the new one?

Yes, removal of the existing fence is included as part of the job. Josh and his assistant clear everything away, so you're not left with a pile of old panels and posts to deal with.

Do I need planning permission for a new fence?

In most cases, a standard garden fence under two metres in height doesn't require planning permission. However, there are exceptions — particularly for properties in conservation areas, on a corner plot, or adjacent to a public road. If you're unsure, it's worth checking with your local authority before work begins.

How much does a bathroom renovation cost?

A full bathroom installation typically comes in at around £10,000–£12,000, depending on the size of the room, the sanitaryware and tiles chosen, and whether any plumbing layout changes are involved. Josh visits in person before quoting, so the figure you get is based on your actual bathroom — not a standard estimate.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

Most bathrooms take between one and two weeks from strip-out to final fit-off. A like-for-like replacement in a smaller room can be completed more quickly, while a larger room or one involving significant plumbing changes may take a little longer. Josh will give you a realistic timeline when he visits.

Do I need to supply the tiles and sanitaryware?

You can if you'd like to — Josh is happy to work with materials you've already chosen. Equally, if you'd prefer him to source everything and include it in the quote, that's also an option. Worth discussing when he visits so you can decide what works best for you.

Do you handle the plumbing and electrics?

Josh manages the full installation including coordination with plumbing and electrical trades. You won't need to organise separate contractors for different parts of the job — he handles all of that.

Will I be without a bathroom during the works?

In most cases, yes. A full renovation involves stripping out the existing bathroom completely, which means it won't be usable during the works. Josh will give you a clear timeline upfront so you can plan around it. If you only have one bathroom and timing matters, it's worth mentioning that when you get in touch.

What types of bathroom do you fit?

All types. Whether it's a straightforward like-for-like replacement, a complete redesign, an en-suite, a wet room, or a compact family bathroom — Josh has fitted all of them. If you have something specific in mind, the best thing to do is get in touch and talk it through.

How much does a kitchen installation cost?

A full kitchen installation typically starts from around £9,000–£11,000 depending on the kitchen specification, room size, and whether any plumbing, electrical, or structural work is involved. Josh visits in person before quoting, so you'll get a figure based on your actual job rather than a standard estimate.

How long does a kitchen installation take?

Most kitchen installations take between one and three weeks. Larger kitchens or those involving significant reconfiguration will take longer. Josh will give you a realistic timeline when he visits and quotes, so you can plan around it.

Can you install a kitchen I've already bought?

Yes. If you've already chosen a kitchen from a retailer, Josh can fit it. Bring the plan and specification along when he visits so he can assess what's involved and quote accordingly.

Do you handle the plumbing and electrics on a kitchen job?

Josh manages the overall installation and coordinates any necessary trades. You won't need to arrange plumbers or electricians separately — he handles all of that as part of the project.

What types of kitchen do you install?

All types. Whether it's a simple in-line kitchen, an L-shape, a U-shape, a galley, or a kitchen-diner requiring a more complex layout — Josh has fitted them all. If you have a specific project in mind, get in touch and talk it through.

Do I need to clear the kitchen before work starts?

Yes. Josh will need the kitchen empty before work begins. He'll give you a clear start date in advance so you have time to sort it — including sorting temporary cooking and washing arrangements.
